Kohjinsha SR UMPC

This is the Kohjinsha SR UMPC features an integrated optical drive, a touchscreen that pivots into tablet position, has a seven-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and a 60GB hard drive and 3-in-1 media car reader (Memory Stick/ Compact Flash/ SD), 2 x USB, VGA port, and microphone and headphone jacks. Also, it provides standard keyboard, plus stick pointer, touchpad, and power switches for Bluetooth and the optical drive.

The SR comes with a 2600mAh battery that Kohjinsha claims can operate the computer for up to 3.5 hours. An optional 5200mAh battery is claimed to more than double the device's endurance, at 7.2 hours. To save on power, the SR has a separate switch that disables the drive when it isn't required.
This lightweight laptop is small and very portable. It measures 9.2 x 7 x 1.3 inches and weighs only 2.4lbs,
and seems to be one of the smallest portable computers ever to include double-layer DVD+R and DVD-R media. The drive both reads and writes CDs and DVDs, and is compatible with double-layer DVD+R and DVD-R media.
The Kohjinsha SCC will come in two models, version that includes Office 2007 personal edition, according to lilliputing. Surely, it will be a good rival for HTC Shift. Even the first model can easily compete with Low-cost Laptops like MSI Wind PC.
Like other UMPCs such as the HTC Shift, the SR uses Intel's 800MHz, Pentium M-based A110 processor, along with the "GU" version of the company's 945 Express Chipset laptop northbridge, and a "u" version of its ICH7 I/O Controller Hub laptop southbridge, 1GB of 400MHz DDR2 DRAM memory,
The UMPC can be operated via stylus alone, also, this laptop is a kind of tablet PC with its touch screen display and pivots to fold down the display over the keyboard.

NOTEBOOK AND UMPC REVIEW - Gygabite W348

The newest model backed at the company’s headquarters is a 13.3-inch model, also known as the Gigabyte W348M. It will come in a sleek case with metal inlays surrounding the touchpad and the palm rest. Under the “serious” hood, Gigabyte has stuffed an Intel mobile platform comprised of GM965 chipset with integrated graphics, paired with a choice of Intel CPUs. Customers can opt for Celeron M, Pentium Dual Core and Core Duo or Core 2 Duo chips, in order to match the device’s price with the required computing performance. The display has a native resolution of 1,280×800 with anti-glare and alleged to do just fine while operated in direct light. Other features include a built-in optical drive, a selection of WiFi options including 802.11 b/g/n, two memory slots for up to 4GB of DDR2 667MHz memory and a standard 2.5in hard drive bay. In terms of connectivity the W348M features a D-sub, three USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, a modem jack, front-mounted audio jacks, a front-mounted card reader for SD and MS cards and, finally, an Express Card slot. The W348M will weigh in at about 2.3kg with the battery, which seems somewhat heavy for a 13.3-inch notebook and it measures 318×237x37mm (DxWxH) at its thickest part. The Cuso PC S600 called MINI UMPC is a mobile device powered by a ARM 926EJ 266MHz processor, 1GB or 4GB of flash memory and runs Windows CE OS.
It supports WiFi 802.11b for internet access through Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, Skype, and using 2500 mA Lithium polymer batteries.
The device supports almost all kind of media formats. including MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV, OGG, AAC, APE, AVI, WMV, DIVX, H.264, ASF, and 3GP (um, with the freeware app TCPMP).

UMPC REVIEW - RUVO AVOX A65U1

In this page you will find the Ruvo Avox, a handsome slider UMPC. The Avox, whilst practically unknown, has a more familiar incarnation as the Gigabyte U60. Are they exactly the same?
Other accessories make the box not only versatile but they may be essential in some applications. This is what is on offer: GPS, 3G, extra battery, TV tuner and DVD burner.
It's the nature of an Ultra Mobile PC: you can take it anywhere and be connected to the Internet via WiFi or to other devices with Bluetooth. No big deal. The fun starts when you see what the docking station offers in terms of connectivity and flexibility.
The Avox is just about the right size for a handheld device running full Windows. It feels well-balanced in your hands, particularly when you use the keyboard in thumb typing. It feels slightly heavier than I would like it to be but it may also be due to the excellent build quality and heavier battery.
The 6.5” 800x480 LCD TFT-LCD display with touch-sensitive screen has a very pleasant quality to it and even though you can use it in a higher resolution (it supports up to 1024x600) the native resolution looks best. Decent WebCam and two microphones grace the top bevel. On the left edge from top to bottom you find the following buttons: one to access the Mobility Centre Button under Vista but currently it's set to the much more useful screen brightness settings (7 levels). Next, the Resolution Change Button where you can switch between four levels of display resolution and the Enter Button handy for when you are not using the keyboard. There is a four way Scroll Button followed by a left mouse button and one for the right mouse functions.
Bottom right you have the tiniest touchpad you ever come across! Small but effective. Most of the time you will be navigating using your fingers on the touchscreen. That's the fastest way and if you need a greater precision you can always use the built-in stylus.
On the lower left-hand side, and on the bottom slider keyboard that there is a USB port, an SD slot and the battery lock and latch.
Viewed from the right you'll encounter the DC-In Jack, microphone and headphone jacks, the SAS switch to emulate Alt+Ctrl+Del, (I reckon they should have called it the SOS switch!) and the power/hold switch with a volume control rocker switch.
Finally at the bottom another USB port, and VGA connector and a special one for the docking station.
The underside accommodates the stylus, the Bay module connector for any optional accessories and also houses the speaker. Not a great place for a speaker but then again there ain't a lot of room on the front, is there?
The hard drive is a 1.8" format, 30 GB affair. Not great as after a Windows install only some 23GB remain. Again, you have to consider the environment that you take the Avox into: it's an away from home type of device for quick access to e-mail or your documents but it is not your main machine. As such, the hard drive should be sufficient as there are many ways of offloading the extra data.
I’m pretty impressed with the unit so far given the constraints of the 1.2GHz VIA processor chip and the size of the box. Battery life is a reasonable 3 to 4 hours depending on brightness settings alone.
What I particularly appreciate in the Ruvo Avox is the absolute silence of the unit. The chip doesn't need any extra cooling through fans and it is quite comfortable to have on your lap or in your hands for an extended period of time.
